“I started working in the kitchen industry in 1981, designing kitchens for Alno and Poggenpohl. After becoming a Certified Kitchen Designer in 1990, I set up my own independent kitchen design company. In 2001, I became a director in Kitchens by Design, and have continued to expand my client base, both in New Zealand and overseas.
“I have won the ‘NZ Kitchen Designer of the Year’ title three times, as well as numerous other industry awards, and have subsequently gone on to be a judge at these awards.
“I believe that successful design comes down to using the latest technology, the best products, and incorporating design flair and passion, then working with my clients to create spaces that are functional, innovative, unique and timeless.”
“I have been involved in the home building industry all my working life. I’m a qualified joiner, and had my own kitchen design and manufacturing company for many years. This unique working background brings a comprehensive and practical knowledge to the design table – a real asset from the initial design stages right through to production and installation.
“For me, functionality is key – that and applying latest design and technology trends from around the world and striving to interpret them into the New Zealand way of living.
“I’m never satisfied with providing just the run-of-the-mill, and I’m always finding innovative ways to create drama and impact to spaces. This creativity has been recognised and rewarded over the years with numerous national design awards.”
“I started my career as a project manager in Australia, working on high-end, custom homes. This early experience has given me valuable insights into what goes on behind the scenes and what to do to ensure a smooth design-and-build process. After years of project management, I decided that design is really were my heart is, so I moved home to be trained and mentored by my award-winning mother, Sue Gillbanks.
“I have a passion for transforming spaces and relish the project management aspect of my work. I enjoy the complexity of kitchen design – the pulling together of beautiful materials and the latest technology to create an efficient space where my clients just love to be. I am equally at home with renovation work and new build projects.”

“Kitchens have always interested me, even from an early age, when I was growing up in Europe. The European aesthetic has had, and continues to have a big influence on me – it is primary driver of what I do now. I love their use of clean lines and their use of simple, beautiful materials.
“Being a kitchen designer and having someone put their trust in you, is a very special thing. The kitchen has become more and more a part of our everyday lives – and is no longer just a space for cooking, but a social and entertainment space.
“The kitchen is very much at the heart of a home these days, and to be given the opportunity to add something unique and beautiful to people’s lives is something I never tire of.”

“An independent designer since 1998, I have recently returned home to New Zealand, having spent the last six years working in Sydney. Over the past 20 years, I have been recognised with design awards in both NZ and Australia, and it was an honour to judge the Australian Design Awards in 2015 and to be recognised for Best of Houzz for Service.
“I work with my clients on every step of the design and build process, and my aim is to seamlessly integrate a new kitchen or bathroom with the rest of a home – no matter what style. My forté is space planning and achieving the most functional design for a space, and I am not shy to suggest creative solutions. In the end your new kitchen or bathroom will be a collaboration of my ideas and your selections.”
