"As part of the homeowners’ redevelopment of their classic early 1900s home, our new kitchen design created a wonderful reinvention of an existing space - retaining the iconic features of the property, while accommodating the needs of modern family living.”
Designed for a busy family, the brief for this space was to modernise, extend and improve flow, while retaining the kitchen’s status as the true heart of the living area. Always front of mind was our clients’ desire for an aesthetic that balanced warmth with crispness, in a way which was sympathetic to the original features of the home.
To achieve this vision, our design paired custom-stained Prime Art American White Oak Planked & Brushed veneer panels for vertical cabinetry with a chic, neutral Resene Half Wan White finish for the base cabinets and bulkhead storage.
“The Prime panels we selected emulate the look of solid timber, with intentionally mismatched leaves that great a stunning planked effect that adds impact to the kitchen,” - Michelle Gillbanks.
For the benchtop and splashback, we selected Dekton Entzo in a finish inspired by Calacatta Gold marble. This feature, together with the wood floors and American White Oak, dark stain wood cabinetry, creates a space that exudes the perfect balance of warmth and crispness.
In addition to materials chosen, clever design features further elevate both the look and functionality of the kitchen. This included selection of an integrated fridge, which blends seamlessly with the surrounding cabinetry, and incorporation of extra storage space above the main vertical cupboards.
“We wanted a handle-less kitchen, so a shark-nose handle detail was added to drawers and doors, while handles required for the integrated fridge and pantry utilised a bronze finish that melts into the surrounding timber.”
Ultimately, the finished kitchen is a wonderful new take on an existing space that will continue to bring joy to our clients for many years to come.
